Lets Move is a national program to help the world understand the challenges kids face early in life because of obesity. The risk of obesity starts early in life. Over half of obese children become overweight by the age of Two. 3x more children are obese today than 30 years ago. Almost 40% in African American and Hispanic communities are obese. More and more children are being diagnosed with obesity-related conditions that were traditionally only seen in adults. Example: Type 2 Diabetes and high-blood pressure. This program educates the world to protect children from experiencing conditions like heart disease, cancer, and stroke as adults.
First lady Obama launched the program, Lets Move! This is a nationwide call-to-action that empowered child care providers to make positive health changes in children that could last a lifetime. There are 5 main goals: physical activity, screen time, food, beverages and infant feeding.
